Faverolles are rare in the US and are listed as "critical" by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. The term "critical" means: fewer than 500 breeding birds in the United States, with five or fewer primary breeding flocks (50 birds or more), and globally endangered.

Hens weigh about 6.5 lbs at maturity and roosters weigh about 8 lbs at maturity. The males and females are easy to distinguish at an early age because they are completely different colors (sex-linked).
